💈✂️ We all know how important it is to stay on top of grooming and looking fresh and stylish 💇♂️
But for our Autistic families, achieving that can be challenging 😬
Let’s discuss the difficulties surrounding haircuts and how we can support them.
Haircuts are hard‼️
They absolutely can be a sensory nightmare, and a lot of families avoid them at times.
Salons can be places of noise, of smells, of lights and chatter, of bustling crowds and strange seating.
For someone who struggles to communicate socially, expectations to then make small talk feels random and can be unbearable.
Let alone the feeling of someone touching your hair, leaving you vulnerable and feeling as if small hairs are like needles on your skin after.
Did you know that some autistic families choose to embrace long hair as a way to avoid the stress of haircuts?
Long hair can be a source of comfort for many autistic individuals, providing a sense of control and familiarity.
Let’s appreciate and respect their unique choices!
Others might choose to use small home based businesses or invite a hair professional to their home where the sensory impact can be effectively managed.
